Mitch Wyman, and his brother, Charlie, are ordinary boys living ordinary lives in an ordinary town in rural New York. But then a gift arrives: a cloak that transports them into the past, to a village in southern England.

There, the boys must learn to endure the harsh and dangerous life of a peasant in the Dark Ages, as they fight to recover a mysterious amulet called the Talisman.

It is a fight they cannot hope to win, but if they lose, they will be trapped forever in the past.
