The Author (that's me) agrees to refund the purchase price of The Book (that's
Postcards From Across the Pond) to The Buyer (that's you) if the
buyer fails to laugh at least once while reading The Book, dependant upon the following terms and conditions:
- The Buyer must have actually bought The Book (I'm keeping track, I'll know)
- The Buyer must have actually read The Book (a signed legal, affidavit is preferred but I will accept a photo of you reading
The Book, as long as it is clear that you are somewhere past the halfway point.)
- Buyers claiming to not have laughed at my book must submit proof that they do, on occasion, actually laugh (a brief statement from
The Buyer's spouse or significant other stating that spouse or significant other has observed
The Buyer genuinely laughing will suffice.)
- The Author reserves the right to judge the validity of any affidavits or sworn testimony and to withdraw the offer at any time without prior notice
if, say, five-hundred people suddenly write in asking for a tenner each (that would just be taking the piss, wouldn't it?) |

PRAISE FOR
Postcards From Across the Pond
It’s England--America’s staging ground for sorting out European wars, they speak the same language, watch the same TV, read the same books--it shouldn’t be much different than moving from New York to Arkansas.
The differences, however, were plentiful and unexpected . . .
I had a lovely book in the mail the other day from over the waters. Michael Harling sent me a copy of his delightful Postcards from Across the Pond. Unfortunately, it was a few days before I was able to read the book. My husband picked it up and started thumbing through it. Before long, he was laughing out loud and reading sections aloud to me...
Anglo Addict - Read the Review!
As a writer who has lived in both the UK and America, Michael Harling is well placed to write about life in both countries. His non-fiction humour book Postcards From Across the Pond, a look at British life from the point of view of an ‘accidental expat’, has recently been published...
Writer's News - Read the Review!
This book ... is filled with humorous and interesting stories of all the differences and ways of adjusting to life in another country. From buying shoe laces, to getting a new Social Security number, or even trying to get a simple haircut - everyone of them is a fun adventure to be taken on...
Just Your Typical Book blog - Read the Review!
This delightful book will appeal to both Yanks and Brits--even those who have not had the chance (misfortune?) to visit their cousins' country "across the pond." Michael Harling cuts to the chase in a sometimes irreverant manner in 65 episodes extracted from daily life during his stay in England...
American Citizens Abroad - Read the Review!
I have read a number of books on the US/UK expat experience as well as on the Brits/England in general, but this one takes the cake–it is hands down the best overall summary of what an American living here would notice and find amusing...
Not From Around Here - And I didn't even pay her.
“Postcards from Across the Pond” is a true delight! Laugh out loud funny regardless of which side of the pond you call home, Mike Harling has a knack for finding both the humor and the charm in everyday fare. Bill Bryson move over, there’s a new American expat in town with a keen sense of humor.
Jeff Yeager - The Ultimate Cheapskate’s Road Map to True Riches
Whether you’ve been in the UK for decades, or are just about to embark on your journey, sit back and enjoy Mike Harling’s unique, entertaining descriptions of his life across the pond.
Toni Hargis - Rules Britannia
I savored the bubbling flavor of this Yankee reaction to Saxon country
in the form of perky postcard-style epistles.
Eileen Swift - former syndicated travel writer for Newsday
Michael Harling's essays about what it's like to be an American living in England are not only fascinating for Anglophiles who've only visited the "motherland" on vacation, but very, very funny, too. Joe Queenan...watch out!
Diana Burrell - Hail Britannia
A lovely, quixotic, affectionate attempt to bring together those "two nations divided by a common language." A must for travellers in both directions.
Gordon Astley - BBC Southern Counties Radio
"This, in my opinion, is a very funny book indeed. I was literally laughing out loud whilst reading this book; not only did I enjoy it, but I am now craving more."
Steve Gillen - US/UK Forum
