September 2 - 3, 2000 in Altamont, NY

Heavy rain and thunderstorms were promised but the day was sunny, hot and humid, often without a cloud in the sky.  (It poured that evening, however.)

Pipers assembling and tuning up.

Imagine the sound of a thousand bagpipes tuning up. That was what greeted me as I walked though the gates at about 11:30 that morning.  After a bit, the sound became more melodious as bands congealed and began practicing their numbers.  Many of the bands were from far away; I saw they had stated out campsites along the edges of the fair grounds and many were cooking breakfast and changing into their highland garb.

Who knows; next year that could be me.

Pipers marching.

Harp and Dragon, is an Internet vendor and is run by a the parents of one of my cigar buddies.  I bought a new practice chanter from them.
