Trip to Gettysburg, PA
July 17 - 19, 1998

After a lifetime of wanting to go and three years of planning and putting it off, I finally just piled the boys into my car and set out for Gettysburg.  I expected they would be a bit bored with the whole ordeal, but they seemed to enjoy the adventure.

We drove to PA throughout the afternoon of the 17th, stayed in a motel outside of town and arrived in Gettysburg early on the morning of the 18th.  We were all surprised by how big the park was and how much there was to see.  After looking for a while at the museum in the Visitor Center, we bought a "Tape Tour" and set out for the battlefield.

The Tape Tour took us along a route prominently marked with "Turn Here" and "Battle Field Tour This Way" signs.  We also had a street map of Gettysburg with the tour route highlighted in red.  In addition to that, the tape narrator continually gave directions and pointed out landmarks to keep us on track.

We only got lost four times.
