   The Buildings

Our hikes took us past a lot of quaint, old buildings.  It's strange to think that the only reason all these tourists come out this way now is because, for centuries, the people who lived here were too poor to update their houses.

The Dunster Castle from afar.  This castle, that dominates the city of Dunster, was originally built in Norman times.

This gateway leading to the main part of Dunster Castle was built during the 13th century.

This odd-looking building is the Yarn Market, built over 500 years ago.  Also in town is a water mill that is so old it was mentioned in The Doomsday Book.  Over looking all of this is the Dunster Castle, in the upper left of the photo.

This is the quaint old sea side town of Lynmouth.  On the cliff above Lynmouth is the quaint old market town of Lynton.  The road between the two villages is steep and intimidating but it was the only means of moving between the two until the Victorians installed a water-powered cable car (which still operates).

One of the many pubs we made good use of during our walks.
