   The Moors

This is Stonehenge.
Stonehenge has nothing to do with Exmoor and is, in fact, no where near it.  But it was along the way so we stopped to have a look.  Stonehenge is a great place to stop at if you happen to be passing that way; but I wouldn't advise making it an actual destination.  It may be an impressive pile of rocks, but after about 14 minutes, it begins to lose it's appeal.

This is where we stayed--Holnicote (Pronounced Honeycut) House, an historic mansion and estate dating back to the 1500's.  Many of the current building are Victorian but some of the structures are hundreds of years old.

This is the moor land.  Think of Lorna Doone, as that was set here in Exmoor.  Lorna Doone may be a famous book, but it's long and boring and almost impossible to understand.  There was a copy in the common room and I leafed through it, so I know whereof I speak.  Suffice it to say, although Lorna is shot by her cousin Carver Doone at her wedding, she doesn't die, and she and John Ridd live happily ever after.

This is also in Exmoor.  This is the path along the East Lyn River which looks surprisingly like any mountain trail in the Adirondack Mountains.

This is the moor as it meets the Bristol Channel.  There are some spectacular cliffs where the land drops into the sea.
