Cornwall is a beautiful place, known for tin, china clay and its famous clotted cream. Consequently, due to the former, there are a lot of abandoned tin mines and clay pits; due to the latter, there are a lot of cows.

Cornwall's sandy beaches attract people from all over the world and surfing is a major attraction. Even in the off-season you will find surfer dudes hanging out on the seafronts.

Smuggling is also a time-honored tradition among the Cornish. And as we happened to be visiting on 19 September--international

Day--I felt this was particularly appropriate.
"Avast, me beauty! Prepare to be boarded! We'll be burying the treasure now!"

Although much of Cornwall's industries (tin, clay, fishing) are in decline, Mevagissey continues to be a working fishing village as it has been for hundreds of years. Granted, years ago the fishing was better and there weren't thousands of tourists blocking the roads and crawling all over the quay.

The harbour is tranquil and filled with the sounds and smells of the sea, as well as a dozen or so B&B's, restaurants and Cornish Ice Cream vendors.

It is also where we picked up the Southwest Coast Path.
